Oracle 19c Enterprise Edition Requirement - Thread
DISCLAIMER: Unless confirmed in writing by FIS, the following are best guesses, off-the-record, tea-leaf reading inferences on what will be required of installed clients by the end of 2021. We hope to get definitive clarity on these points by FIS at our meetup in July. Stay tuned . . .
What version will be required? For installed clients, Oracle 19c Enterprise Edition with Advanced Security. However, Standard Edition 2 (SE2) with third party encryption is acceptable, but there are limitations on that version (such as a two socket max). Bottom line, enterprise and encryption are required for FIS support. Oracle cloud and Oracle's database appliances (ODA's) are also supported but less is known on that end.
What's the cost (non-cloud)? So, the good news first. FIS will be a reseller and is rumored to offer 30% discounts on Oracle's pricing. There is also a rumor that an Oracle DBA will be hired and on-staff to assist (break/fix) customers that go this route.
Now, the rest of the news. Here is a site that helps calculate the one-time costs to your organization:
https://wintelguy.com/oracle-db-licensing-calc.pl
Please keep in mind, Oracle licensing is complicated and restrictive at best. You may inadvertently under estimate your requirements (by a lot) particularly if you are virtualized.
For EE, enter your host specs at the top, change the license cost to 62,500 (EE 47,500 + Adv. Encrypt 15,000), then hit calculate. The amount calculated is the sticker price; you can take 30% less to see what may be the true cost. There are links at the bottom of that webpage for core factor, license definitions, and Oracle's current price list.
That price does not include the on-going annual support costs (which are required) and run about 1/5 of whatever that one-time cost comes out to.
What about DR or dev environments? If you can get a definitive answer on this point, please post a comment. We are hoping to get clarity. There is information in the pricing documentation, but my head is starting to hurt again just thinking about it.
Please feel free to share any information that you've heard to this point. We'll do our best to keep this post up-to-date with the most accurate information we have as time goes on.
